If you are exploring Shkodër this week, a unique window into the past is waiting right in the heart of the city. We highly recommend taking a moment to visit the "Albania 1921 – Eugène Pittard" exhibition, currently open in the square in front of the Municipality of Shkodër. Conveniently located just a short walk from our Sightseeing Shkodra bus departure point, this open-air exhibition is a must-see for anyone interested in the soul of this city. Running until May 7, 2026, the display features a collection of rare, previously unpublished photographs taken by the Swiss academic Eugène Pittard during his travels in 1921 and 1924. Pittard was a true friend to Albania—a fervent advocate for the country’s sovereignty and the founder of the Albanian Red Cross. Unlike traditional photographers of his era, his lens focused intimately on the lives of ordinary inhabitants, offering a raw and beautiful glimpse into the early days of the Albanian state. What makes this exhibition particularly compelling is its blend of history and modern technology. You won't just see prints; you can engage with the collection through animations, slides, and Virtual Reality (VR) experiences, making it a perfect stop for all ages. As Swiss Ambassador Ruth Huber noted, Pittard’s work celebrates the values of openness and cultural dialogue—values we continue to cherish in Shkodër today. After you have experienced this fascinating walk through history, don’t forget to hop aboard our sightseeing bus to see the rest of our beautiful city. It is the perfect way to experience the past and present of Shkodër in a single day. We look forward to seeing you there!
